Car import glossary
NOVA, IVA, ToR, V55/5. Importing a car comes with its own alphabet. Here it is in plain English.

Documents you need
C
- Certificate of ConformityCoC

Importing a classic car - Consolidated container
-
A shipping container shared between several cars, each paying for its space. Usually the best value way to ship from outside Europe.
Container, RoRo or air - Customs clearance
-
Declaring the car to HMRC when it lands, paying any VAT and duty due, and getting it released from the port.
How it works - Customs Declaration ServiceCDS

HMRC’s system for import declarations. Customs agents authorised on CDS can clear a car on your behalf.
How it works
D

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency. It issues the UK registration number and the V5C logbook.
