From port to plates
The port is one stop on the way, not something you need to manage. We collect the car from your address or dealer and truck it to the port. It then travels in a shared container, a dedicated container or by RoRo, depending on the route and the car. Our guide to container, RoRo or air goes through the differences.
Which UK port the ship calls at is down to the shipping line. Cars shipped in a container come straight to our own site in Castle Donington to be unloaded, which gives us direct control from the port and avoids long port waiting times. From there we clear customs, handle NOVA, test and register the car, and deliver it to you.
Cars from mainland Europe usually skip the port altogether. We collect from your address and bring them over by road. The Europe guide covers how that works.
Questions about ports
Which port will my car ship from?
Usually the nearest main port to where the car is collected. The shipping line confirms the port and sailing when we book, and your quote will say which one we are planning to use.
Do I have to take the car to the port myself?
No. We collect from your address or dealer and truck the car to the port. If you would rather drop it at the port yourself, tell us on the quote form.
Which UK port does the car arrive at?
That is down to the shipping line and the sailing. Cars shipped in a container come to our own site to be unloaded, which keeps them away from busy port warehouses and long port waiting times.
Why is there no port for most of Europe?
Cars from mainland Europe usually come by road. We collect from your address and bring the car across the Channel, so there is no port for you to deal with.
My country is not listed. Can you still ship from it?
