Paperwork is where imports go wrong. As you're possibly aware, it only takes one small error for things to go haywire, and before you know it you have a delay. The good news is that the list of things we need from you is short. The rest, we deal with.
What we need from you
- The car's current registration document, from the country it is in now
- Proof of purchase: the invoice or bill of sale
- Photo ID: the photo page of your passport, or a driving licence
- The old V5C logbook, if the car used to be UK-registered
The purchase invoice matters for tax as well as ownership. Import VAT is worked out on it, or on a recent valuation if the invoice is more than 3 months old.
Extras some countries ask for
- USA: the car's title (or registration), the bill of sale and ID.
- Japan: the export certificate. Sending it before the car ships lets us check its technical details early.
- UAE: the original registration card (Mulkiya), the RTA export certificate and a passport copy. Our agents handle the RTA deregistration.
- Singapore: LTA deregistration, which is done online. We can send you a guide.
Each country page lists what that route needs.
Moving here?
If you are bringing the car under Transfer of Residence, you will also need your HMRC ToR reference, which means applying before the car ships. See how Transfer of Residence works.
What we handle
- Export paperwork on the other side
- The UK customs entry, as HMRC CDS authorised agents
- The NOVA notification to HMRC, which has to be made within 14 days of arrival
- A Certificate of Conformity, if the car needs one and you do not have it
- The DVLA application (form V55/5) and testing, if you want it registered
Got a document you are not sure about? Send it over when you ask for a quote and we will tell you whether it is what we need.
